The announcement to ‘go Sharia’ is usually made at a mosque, by decree, at Friday prayers. The decision is typically represented as being ‘by the express wishes of the people’ but the reality is Sharia is imposed by those who have the power and the weapons to tell people how they will live.

The Taliban imposed Sharia that is beginning to blast it’s way through the largely Pashtu North West Frontier is exactly the same as the Sharia which repulsed the West in Afghanistan during the 1990s. Women are banned from being seen publicly, except for emergency visits to doctors (if a female medico is available). A senior male member of her family must chaperone her. And of course, she must be in complete hijab.

Interesting to me that this writer structures the description of Sharia to imply that the Taliban are imposing their version of it rather than describing it as the one and only “true Sharia.”

You know, I’ve long been an opponent of takfiring people for any reason, but given that these animals use takfir against ordinary muslims for their own political ends, perhaps it is time we fought back with the same tool. Someone who murders muslims on the Day of Sacrifice surely deserves to be labeled an unbeliever and a jahil.

And here is a claim from the Indy report above that shouldn’t surprise anyone: all four of the aid workers killed by the Taliban (or those who ally themselves with the group) in the past two months have been women.

Britain is supportive of these moves. I am guessing here, but it is possible the US does too, but given the focus on the presidential election no one is willing to openly say so.
