Noted sociologist Dr Tahir Abbas was accused of plagiarism by his department at the University of Birmingham. But Nafeez Ahmed points out the official story is pretty fishy, and speculates that institutional racism might be at play. It’s a pretty murky affair and I wonder if any UK-based readers or frontpagers here at Talk Islam might be able to lend any insight?

we’re focusing on the unrest in iran right now. it seems that the high bound for fatalities is on the order of hundreds. but what about pakistan? zack’s post is at the top of the page right now, from what i have read the refugee crisis is a utilitarian catastrophe in the making. and yet at this moment many more people around the world are fixated on the death of one girl, neda, who was filmed as she lay dying. just human nature.
though i think brian herbert’s prequals to the dune series were relatively standard space opera, i do think that the plot of the butlerian jihad did give us a window into the human condition. in particular, how irrational responses to specific events can trigger social change.
