Key resource in fight against anti-Muslim fearmongering movies disappears.

The website “Obsession with Hate” that was created by the Hate Hurts America Multifaith Community Coalition – of which CAIR is a “coordinating member” – to combat the anti-Muslim hate movies “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West” and “The Third Jihad” is gone. Its address was http://www.obsessionwithhate.com.

Many Muslim blogs as well as civil rights and civil liberties groups linked to the site to provide a vital corrective to the two hate documentaries that are still being shown to groups all across the US when smear merchants like Walid Shobat and Nonie Darwish speak. All of those sites now have broken links that redirect them to a “GoDaddy.com” page.

The “Obsession with Hate” website broke a major story against the two documentaries. When Islamic studies professor Khaleel Mohammed who appears in the “Obsession” movie declared he had been tricked by the makers into participating and called it a “vile piece of propaganda” he gave his statement exclusively to the OwH website. The only place you are going to find Mohammed’s statement now is at blogs like my own that excerpted it extensively or just flat-out republished it despite the “exclusive” tag.

I also used the site earlier this year to identify Glen Jenvey as one of the Obsession documentary’s pundits when Jenvey’s ‘fake Islamist’ story was developing.

For the organizations that were involved in creating the website and promoting it within the Muslim community as a reliable resource to now close it down is deeply irresponsible, and lends itself to creating a reputation that CAIR and the other groups involved are flakey and unreliable partners in the fight against Islamophobia and anti-Muslim propaganda.

CAIR: Penn. high school drops anti-Islam ‘Obsession’ video.

The Pennsylvania chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations announced today that a high school in that state has dropped an anti-Islam video listed for use in one of its classes.

Earlier this month, CAIR-PA sent a letter to the superintendent of the Council Rock School District expressing concerns about a hate-filled video, “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West,” listed in the syllabus of a course at Council Rock High School in Newtown, Penn.
    ….

n his response to CAIR-PA’s concerns, Superintendent of Schools Mark J. Klein noted that the course was eliminated from the curriculum for the 2008-2009 school year and that, “Along with the elimination of this course, we will represent to you that this film will not be used in any other course in Council Rock.”

US law enforcement training in Israel associated with “Obsession” DVD producer’s Islamophobic campaign.

The Israel program is run by Security Solutions International (SSI), a group that has attracted controversy due to its ties to Islamophobic propaganda groups — as well as its apparent view that indoctrinating first responders with alarmist information about Islam is an essential part of counterterrorism training.
    ….

It is not immediately obvious why the Appalachian State University campus security force, or the Yakima, WA police department — to take two representative names from SSI’s clients list — require a crash course in the fine points of jihadist ideology to do their jobs properly.

Critics have pointed out that the most likely effect of such training — particularly for law enforcement personnel who have never had significant contact with Muslims before — is to drum up hysteria, and increase the likelihood of a potentially tragic overreaction when they actually do encounter someone they presume to be Muslim.

SSI lists the Clarion Fund’s film “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West” as a ”Patriot Partner”. More on the “Obsession” DVD here.

Glen Jenvey confesses that he wrote fake Islamist postings which led to front-page media stories hyping false threats against UK Jews.

Jenvey – who has since converted to Islam - admits all in a message at the forum where he originally posted his sockpuppet threats:

Brother i’m sorry for the Allan Sugar story plant. I’m retired now from spying on Muslims. I saw a chance to install fear back in Jews who were killing Muslims.I was wrong to use you and your site.If you need any thing to help you in any way in the name of Allah just ask.

But yes the Sun did not know who posted it.I say sorry to you from my heart. if you want show the police and get me arrested. but with the first ramadaam coming i want to clear my past sin’s before i start my fasting and pray.

I would write this on your forum but im blocked out. may Allah reward you for your good work you do.Ameen

    Omar Hamza Jenvey
    aka
    Glen Jenvey

Aside from the question of media gullibility, Richard Bartholomew brings up another significant issue:

And what about the credibility (as if it ever had any) of “Obsession,” which was distributed as a free DVD to 28 million American homes in 2008, and which featured Jenvey along with the likes of Daniel Pipes, Alan Dershowitz, and Brigitte Gabriel?

Over at Pajamas Media, some guy from Zudhi Jasser’s project working in collaboration with Daniel Pipes’ Islamist Watch attacks a Dawah DVD from the Bridges Foundation by conflating “Islamism” with Dawah.

But it also appears though that the DVD, “Islam in brief: The Fog is Lifting, part 1″ is being marketed as a response to the awful Islamophobic “Obsession” DVD, 28 million copies of which were distributed last year in the run-up to the presidential election. Bait and switch is deceitful, and people are likely not to appreciate being proselytized under the false pretenses.

The Bridges DVD is excellent, but if it doesn’t mention or specifically rebut anything about ‘Obsession’ (the way this article did) then ‘Obsession’ shouldn’t be mentioned in the marketing.

Sockpuppet master Glen Jenvey has announced he is converting to Islam and is changing his name to Omar Hamza Jenvey reports Richard Bartholomew.

I wonder if this is a real conversion or the latest effort by “Obsession”-pundit Jenvey to become a super-secret agent and plum the depths of Islamofascism.
