Deceitful, Ignorant Or Otherwise Stupid Reason To Invade Iraq #346:

Of the various premises on which the U.S. invasion of Iraq was sold to the American people, one of the most bizarre was that a post-Saddam Iraqi government would be friendly to Israel. As with claims about WMD and Al Qaeda connections, this one has proved to be a work of imagination.

Just as they did during Israel’s 2006 war against Hezbollah, Iraq’s leaders are now showing where their true sympathies lie. Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s Da’wa Party “issued a statement condemning the attacks and calling on Islamic countries to cut relations with Israel and end all ’secret and public talks’ with it.”

Khalid Hussain of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI) told Gulf News “We have obligations towards Palestine and all Iraqi people are in solidarity with the people in Palestine, and we will support the people in Gaza.”

Political leaders and their religious beliefs: Tony Bliar talks about his conversion to Roman Catholicism. Apparently, he was worried people may have thought he was a “nutter” if he had talked about his beliefs. Shame he wasn’t so concerned about being called a warmongering bastard for lying over invading another country with no justification whatsoever.

Shrubya, meanwhile, says he is not a literalist and has no problem with evolution. That’s good. But too bad he also has no problems with indefinite detention, torture, and letting corporations run amock in a country he invaded for ficitious reasons.

Colin Powell’s endorsement of Barack Obama is all good and well. I agree he gave a very powerful answer as to why he supports Obama and a very eloquent response to questions outside NBC’s studio. I can see why his words are important for Americans.

But then remember this is a man who lied to the world about Iraq.

It seems John McCain wanted to show the world his skill in using The Internets by ripping off Wikipedia.

Still at least American politicians don’t rip off dissertations by postgraduate students in order to justify war. (Though that is largely due to American politicians not caring too much about justifying wars they are about to launch.)
