Look what Europe has given to the world: democracy and human rights, the love of peace. Look at its achievements in the field of literature, music, law, architecture.

Fascism? Nazism? Communism? Totalitarianism? The Holocaust? Anti-Semitism? The modern nation-state (probably the world’s biggest killer)? Two gruesome world wars? Racial pseudoscience? Colonialism? The hypocrisy of European nations following their liberation from the clutches of the Third Reich? Near extermination of New World peoples and appropriation of its riches? Treaties signed by European powers in which they agreed to only use cruel weapons on ‘lesser peoples’? Cristiano Ronaldo?!

Although I actually agree there are many cultural products from Europe that deserve merit (and I receive a lot of stick from fellow believers when I suggest this), Ye’or’s comments are disingenuous. Such a lopsided view is as bad as any crass anti-European tirade.

Does Dunkin’ Donuts really think its customers could mistake Rachael Ray for a terrorist sympathizer? The Canton-based company has abruptly canceled an ad in which the domestic diva wears a scarf that looks like a keffiyeh, a traditional headdress worn by Arab men.

Some observers, including ultra-conservative Fox News commentator Michelle Malkin, were so incensed by the ad that there was even talk of a Dunkin’ Donuts boycott.

‘‘The keffiyeh, for the clueless, is the traditional scarf of Arab men that has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad,’’ Malkin yowls in her syndicated column.

For her part, Malkin was pleased with Dunkin’s response: ‘‘It’s refreshing to see an American company show sensitivity to the concerns of Americans opposed to Islamic jihad and its apologists.’’

On a bit of good news, Edwards endorses Obama. Maybe this will convince Hillary to stop beating the dead parrot of her campaign (h/t Eteraz). An Obama/Edwards ticket? I’m kind of becoming giddy thinking about it.

Carmen Silliman has collected a sheaf of poisonous e-mails that have flowed into her in-box. “We do not need a Muslim to lead the good ole USA,” reads one. Obama is, in fact, a Christian.

Neil Gillies, an Obama supporter who runs a local environmental nonprofit group, glumly recounted the gibes that his wife, a schoolteacher, hears regularly from her students. “They’re convinced [Obama] is a Muslim, a terrorist, a guy who’s coming to take away their guns,” Gillies said. “It’s just sad.”
