Kristof has an op-ed in NYT today about the importance of educating Iraqi refugees. I worked with a couple of Iraqi families seeking refugee status from UNHCR in Egypt, and their anger and frustration is not something I’m likely to forget. This situation is a huge disaster thats only going to get worse, since it doesn’t seem to be anyone’s concern in the US.

Mayors of major U.S. cities beg Congress for help with deteriorating infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the Iraq War is going to cost U.S. taxpayers $2.7 trillion, far off the $60 to $100 billion figure estimated by the Bush administration. But what’s a billion here or there? I guess we’ll find out when the next bridge collapses.

Monbiot had revealed his intentions on his own blog the day before, by outlining his basis for an arrest.
