I find this article by Francesca Segal to be dishonest and a bit of rant.
Complaining about one kind of conspiracy theory (antisemitic slurs about ‘Jewish power’), she goes onto posit another one: ‘British appeasement of Islamism’. I am surprised she didn’t start waffling about Arabist appeasers in the Foreign Office working to bring about Eurabia.
I don’t know who Segal is, but running her name through Google reveals she has written for Standpoint Magazine (a magazine which promotes collections of neocons, right-wingers, ‘muscular Christians’) and was also invited by the Observer to talk to a couple of Lebanese about Israel’s destruction of Lebanon in 2006. Segal spends the whole interview trying to get her two Lebanese interlocutors to admit that Lebanon deserved to be bombed due to Hizbollah’s actions.
That explains everything.
