btw, the LA Times piece on Johnson was overall positive, but the NYT piece was more critical. Johnson has posted a couple of responses to the NYT piece. He was also profiled in Vanity Fair.

I am a Christian follower of Jesus who loves the people of the Middle East. The basic premise of this blog is that we cannot love those we do not know. So I am hopeful that this blog is one way Muslims and Christians get to know each other.

I thank God for my wonderful wife and three beautiful children. I enjoy people of other cultures, telling Arabic jokes, eating shawarma and falafel, and studying US presidential history.

My general view is that I have about a 10 minute window to remove a post entirely for any reason. I think the window is longer for wordsmithing. But after a half hour or so, I tend to think strikeouts or “Updates” are more appropriate unless they’re very minor typos.

I can see pulling something within an hour or so, and actually if there’s a good enough reason, I can see pulling something after a significant length of time, even up to days, BUT ONLY if a substitute set of text is placed where that post was, explaining why it was pulled. Under any circumstances of more than fiften or so minutes, such an explanation should be posted, really, in my view. (I’d give a bit more leeway for the middle of the night, though, when fewer folks are reading.)

The trouble with publishing a post like the previous one and then pulling it is that the accusations have been put out there and the well has been poisoned so to speak – but then when the post is completely disappeared, the objects of the accusations have lost the opportunity to respond to the charges.

I think Salafi Burnout should have insisted his anonymous author provide an explanation for why the article should be stricken before taking it off his blog.
