Dominoes in Motion: Research in Motion now faces new demands from India to allow the country to monitor BlackBerry users.

Blackberry maker, RiM, caves to KSA and allows the crown to monitor its “encrypted” messages, in what seems likely to set off a chain reaction.
“Now that they’re doing it for small, oppressive countries — sure, everyone is going to ask for it”

Most of the terrorist came from this country, isn’t it in everyone’s interest they monitor all possible routes? It’s not that KSA has a legacy or long standing constitution guaranteeing freedom of expression.

Yeah, backward Arabs are undeserving of privacy.

That’s your implication not mine. Certainly, Blackberry/RIM should not be assumed of as a defender and protector of rights in a country which does not guarantee it in the first place. if the “backward Arabs” (again, your term) wish to acquire privacy, they should fight for it within.

in my experience, Saudis are leaving the Kingdom instead…quite often complaining about the complete lack of privacy.
It is difficult to find anything to defend here: either on the part of RiM (who regularly touts their commitment to privacy, and is now clearly compromised by its submission to one regime, soon to be followed by similar arrangements with others) or the crown (whose real security concerns seem centered around monitoring their own young, underemployed population).

Makes sense. Google had the typical episode with Chinese so it is not just Arab countries. Unfortunately, I don’t see people winning this agitation with their government, most may not even know what they’re loosing and few who do know, can’t possibly do anything about it. Pakistanis showed utter helplessness.
Who would even be surprised if the future wars will be fought over digital divide and not on oil or water.

The notion that most of the terrorists comes from KSA, a country I’m not fond of, while the state of Israel imprisons and terrorizes Palestinians at will wherever they may be is laughable and pathetic at the same time.

What does one got to do with another? Have you even read the article and know the context? Here:
-official fears the service could be used for criminal purposes.
-Saudi security officials fear the service could be used by militant groups to avoid detection. Countries including India and the United Arab Emirates have expressed similar concerns.

Across the Gulf, governments are revealing various concerns, with Bahrain having cautioned against using BlackBerry to distribute local news while Kuwait wants a block on pornography.

India has issued an order that will, on 31 August, suspend the encrypted corporate emails and messenger services provided by the popular BlackBerry if RiM cannot provide an way for the government to monitor those services. RiM has assured India that it will find a way to comply with what they want.
