If we take Brother Mu’adh at his word when he writes, “For most of their history the Islamic caliphates demonstrated the plurality of the Islamic system and how it ruled over overwhelmingly non-Muslim populaces in regions such as India,” then the radical caliphate project that inspires militants today in Pakistan and Afghanistan stands as far outside of Islamic history and tradition as it does the religion of the Quran and the Sunnah.
