  Disgruntled ex-UN official lashes out – UN failed to prevent Afghan election fraud.

  An American ousted as the No. 2 official at the U.N. mission in Afghanistan said Monday he has no second-thoughts about assertions that the organization failed to aggressively probe vote fraud charges in the August presidential election.

  “The flaw that took place in Afghanistan was preventable,” the dismissed diplomat, Peter Galbraith, said Monday on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

  He’s not a ‘team player’ anymore.

  The most senior American diplomat at the UN mission in Afghanistan has been fired after he failed to secure support for a full and robust investigation into widespread fraud favouring President Hamid Karzai in the August presidential elections.

  Widespread and systematic fraud during the Afghan presidential elections has tarnished the legitimacy of any future government and undermined the Nato campaign there, Western and Afghan officials have admitted.

  And so it begins:

  Rivals for the Afghan presidency have accused each other of electoral fraud in the wake of the presidential and provincial elections.

  While both camps dismissed each other’s accusations, the Election Complaints Commission on Sunday said it was investigating 225 allegations of misconduct.
