It’s Wiki-time! Inspired by a suggestio…
Inspired by a suggestion made by Thabet on this very blog, the world now has a British Muslim Wiki. Or at least we have the framework of one – it’s taxonomy has been established, but just one article so far. As I write this (14/10/2010), we have two registered editors – myself and Yahya Birt – a third is expected, ISA.
I think for a project like this to be viable, we will need to triple that number at least. Fancy helping out? Some evidence of knowledge of Muslims in Britain is essential, and a commitment to inclusiveness – I would like the Wiki to carry data about all British Muslim communities, from Proggy to Ismaili to Ahmadiyya to Salafi. Beyond that, the usual Wiki editing skills and editorial values apply.
Drop me a note at tasneem_project[at]btinternet[dot]com and I’ll email you an invite.

brilliant idea!
I see you are hosting on Wikidot. If you prefer I can easily host the wiki on the Talk Islam account (you could also map your own domain) using a full-fledged SocialWiki install. You’d have no ads to deal with, or cost, and full admin access for maintenance, backup, etc. It literally would cost me nothing since my costs are fixed for the Talk Islam account.
Let me know and I can set up a test install for you to play with. Shoudl be easy to port your site since you dont have a lot of content entered in yet.
Part of my goal with TI is to promote an Islamic web infrastructure and I’d be honored to help you out. Or rather, honoured.

Salaams Aziz – I have an agenda which I don’t think is incompatible with impartiality, and that is to promote a positive representation of Muslims. I have no wish to gold plate anything; rather, I am simply keen to make sure no one turns up wanting to write on the Wiki with a bucket of poo secreted behind their backs. Hence, providing editorial access can be managed to keep out the poo carriers, then my answer is — yes and jazak Allah!
