Aziz denigrates the martyrdom of Ali Mousavi as not as important as it appears at first blush. The reason it is important is that it deligitimizes the regime for the pious rural poor……for these people.
This is a meme translated to language the pious can all understand…..the language of the Holy Qur’an and the language of the Battle of Karbala.

oh, I didn’t denigrate it. I just question the propriety of equating it to the sacrifice of Husain AS.
I’m simply loath for Karbala to become yet another “meme”. I don’t think you can understand how I feel about it, just two days after Yawme Ashura.

This meme is both quranic and historic. It models the oppression of the Shi’ia under the Ummayyad caliphate, it models the quranic lesson of Thamud.
Again…..the feel I get from you is that your “watershed moment” is a student coup that instantiates a western-style “democracy”.
Khomenei’s and Mousavi’s actions in the 1979 Islamic Revolution are isomorphic with Andrew Jackson’s actions in the American Revolution….the sanction of slavery, the genocide of native Americans….survival neccessities in that timeslice.
The Green Wave doesn’t view Seyyed Mir Hussein Mousavi as some sort of bearer of westernization….
aziz 10:10 am on December 31, 2009 Permalink |
let me absolutely clear – i have no illusions about “western style democracy” and thats not my concern in Iran at all. This is red herring in our conversation.
Shams al-Nahar 11:13 am on December 31, 2009 Permalink |
Define what constitutes a “watershed” moment then, please.
I am very confused.
How is this not like Thamud…and alike to Khamenei refusing the water of justice to the people?
It is widely believed Khamenei seeks to secure a dynasty for his son, exactly like Muawiya and Yazid. Khamenei has styled himself “the Ali of the Age.”

I am merely pointing out the memetic symbology.
Which will be and is being exploited.
Mousavi pere has repeatedly said he is prepared for martyrdom.
The Green Wave chants Ya Hussein, Mir Hussein.
I’m sorry I offend thee with my distortions.
I still don’t understand what constitutes a “watershed” moment for you.

Wow. does this mean we can burn Aziz at the stake?! I am getting the kindling ready as we speak….

sod off, Orientalist.

It is so easy and convenient to equate Iranian struggle with the Karbala. How about we look forward instead of looking backwards?
shams 5:29 pm on December 31, 2009 Permalink |
I strongly object to Aziz’s post which was linked by the King of the Retards (Glenn Reynolds) and widely disseminated throughout the JAFIsphere.
How is the Green Wave NOT the struggle of the people against unjust and illegitimate rule by tyrants, just as Ali’s was?
Aziz is so ill-informed he thinks i meant to draw a parallel between Yazid and ‘Nejad…..the exact parallel is Yazid and Khamenei’s son Mojtaba.
aziz 6:08 pm on December 31, 2009 Permalink |
I’m not “ill informed” about Karbala, I assure you. And there’s no exact parallel between Mojtaba and Yazid either.
How is the Green Wave NOT the struggle of the people against unjust and illegitimate rule by tyrants, just as Ali’s was?
did you mean Husain, not Ali? regardless, the event at Karbala was not about mere “injustice” and “tyrants” at all. I despair that you havent even tried to read my post.
shams 9:08 pm on December 31, 2009 Permalink |
i read your post and the LINK from Instapundit and the props from the JAFIsphere. You SAID i compared Nejad to Yazid….its right in the title.
The event at Karbala was about more than tyranny and illegitimate rule…it was about suborning the truth of Allah….and corrupting al-Islam.
Which is exactly what Khamenei has done.
Like Muawiya, Khamenei is departing from Islamic norms and turning an ISLAMIC REPUBLIC into a dictatorship and police state…..Like Muawiya Khamenei is attempting to secure a dynastic line for his son Mojtaba.
This is the fourth time I have asked…..what is your “watershed” moment?
thabet 10:32 pm on January 1, 2010 Permalink |
Looking ‘forward’ requires as much an act of faith as looking ‘backward’.
shams 5:11 am on January 2, 2010 Permalink |
If the protestors want to liken their struggle to Karbala and draw strength from Husayn’s example…..well…..I think they have paid the bloodprice to do so.
Aziz is way out of line here.
When you get linkage from instapundit and props from JAFIs on a post there is something basically wrong.
I ax Aziz four times what defines a “watershed moment” for him….still no response.
How is there a hair’s breadth of difference between Aziz and Captain Stupid here?
A RETURN TO MODERNITY AND HUMAN RIGHTS?????????
Like under the American Puppet Tyrant Shah????????
Retards.
