Key resource in fight against anti-Muslim fearmongering movies disappears.
The website “Obsession with Hate” that was created by the Hate Hurts America Multifaith Community Coalition – of which CAIR is a “coordinating member” – to combat the anti-Muslim hate movies “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West” and “The Third Jihad” is gone. Its address was http://www.obsessionwithhate.com.
Many Muslim blogs as well as civil rights and civil liberties groups linked to the site to provide a vital corrective to the two hate documentaries that are still being shown to groups all across the US when smear merchants like Walid Shobat and Nonie Darwish speak. All of those sites now have broken links that redirect them to a “GoDaddy.com” page.
The “Obsession with Hate” website broke a major story against the two documentaries. When Islamic studies professor Khaleel Mohammed who appears in the “Obsession” movie declared he had been tricked by the makers into participating and called it a “vile piece of propaganda” he gave his statement exclusively to the OwH website. The only place you are going to find Mohammed’s statement now is at blogs like my own that excerpted it extensively or just flat-out republished it despite the “exclusive” tag.
I also used the site earlier this year to identify Glen Jenvey as one of the Obsession documentary’s pundits when Jenvey’s ‘fake Islamist’ story was developing.
For the organizations that were involved in creating the website and promoting it within the Muslim community as a reliable resource to now close it down is deeply irresponsible, and lends itself to creating a reputation that CAIR and the other groups involved are flakey and unreliable partners in the fight against Islamophobia and anti-Muslim propaganda.

do you have contact info for any of the site’s creators? I’d be happy to host a mirror at Talk Islam.

None. Queries would start with CAIR I imagine.
I’m not sure what a ‘mirror’ site is, but if thousands of Muslim bloggers are linked to the original website and very few to none are likely to go back through old blog posts and fix links, I’m not sure if it would solve the problem. All those blog posts are out there ranked on Google and likely to get first hits from anybody doing research, fact-checking or double-checking the crap some propagandist is spewing at the local college.
A new website with new web address would be ok for new stories about the movies however.

According to Whois information, the web address is now owned by one Boris Kreiman. There is a Boris Kreiman listed in Wikipedia as a former American chess grandmaster who immigrated from the USSR. I’m pretty sure its the same guy as his email address is Kreimanchess@yahoo.com.
Kreiman is also listed as owning other religious sites such as jewishglobe.com and he recently purchased “Christian.com” for $600,000.
I shudder to think what all those links on all those Muslim blogs are going to send readers to now…

Wait. I should take that back – Kreiman could be affiliated with the mulit-religious coalition that was involved in creating the website, so I don’t know if this is a problem…
Anyway, here’s the whois:
Domain Name: OBSESSIONWITHHATE.COM
Created on: 16-Sep-08
Expires on: 16-Sep-10
Last Updated on: 28-Oct-09
So it could be they just screwed up.

I found another ’spiritual’ related website where Kreiman caged the original url and forced the group to relocate their site. The site was against a charlatan psychic in California named Sylvia Browne. One person said of Kreiman’s move:
Another commenter said:
No doubt “obsessionwithhate.com’ is valuable Google real estate by now, so if this guy Kreiman is a professional squatter, then CAIR et al would probably have to pay a steep price to get it back.

Apparently what Kreiman did with this other site was he cloned it and then turned it into a ‘link farm.’
I doubt that Kreiman is affiliated with the multi-religious coalition that created the original site, given his shady, duplicitous history with this other site.

Here’s another blog where the blogger had to go through old posts and change all the links because of what that ‘F***hole vulture Boris Kreiman’ did.
Way to screw up the Muslim blogosphere, CAIR et al….

Kreiman in his own words.
Apparently, he bought the website http://www.sylviabrowne.com at auction for $495, then he offered to sell it back to the original owner for $20,000.
Kreiman responded to complaints with this message:
Well, it will be interesting to see if CAIR et al care enough about the valuable real estate they created and all those Muslim bloggers who link to it to PUT THEIR MONEY WHERE THEIR MOUTH IS (or was) and buy it back for whatever the obscene actual market value is…
There seems to be alot of money in the anti-Muslim blogosphere. Maybe Pamela Geller will get her hands on the domain…
