Ibrahim Hooper on damage control again. Anyone else have doubts about this guy?
Here is some coverage on this bizarre breaking story from The Hill
Hooper rushes to play the race card (and he is not even another race) and SURPRISE! all four house representative accusers are republican (apparently Muslim spies don’t need to infiltrate democratic representatives). Reminds me of when Bush, trying to relieve pressure from the Iraq war, announced an ambitious plan to go to Mars.

I’m unclear about the rhetorical point here. Are you saying you have doubts, or that you don’t have doubts?

I am not suggesting, I am asking. Ibrahim Hooper has been at the center of several controversies with CAIR. I have always noticed how he in particular handles them in a consistent manner.
I am curious if others have noticed him and what their impressions are. But that is only a sidebar to the story itself.

Yes it is. It would be politically tone-deaf to change the subject to scolding Hooper right now.

Hooper is a jerk.
Ah…..that felt good.

No matter what Hooper might be, the two Arizona congressmen (Shadegg and Franks) who are making the statements are not exactly paragons of sanity. Neither of them is my congressman, who is also a Republican (Flake), but who is spending a lot of his time perfecting his “No, No, No” speeches. We’re not all whackjobs in Arizona, but our congressional representation unfortunately doesn’t leave that impression.

As Shams is fond of pointing out, the republican party has recently let a screw or two loose.

Some movement on this story:
Ibrahim “Dougie” Hooper claims some nut faxed a death threat.
An article on Salon.com called the actions of the elected officials who
launched the anti-Muslim book the “most despicable domestic political event of
the year.” The article calls the co-author of “Muslim Mafia” a “ranting,
insane hatemonger.”
The demand for a probe of Muslim “spies” in Congress drew condemnation from
other elected officials, one of whom called it a “witch hunt.”
Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-CA) issued a statement yesterday, which read in part:
“I am appalled by this request [for an investigation of Muslim 'spies' in
Congress], and the insinuation that Muslim-Americans are somehow conspiring
against this country through their work on Capitol Hill. As a strong advocate
for diversity and religious freedom, I find these claims to be outrageous and
offensive. I urge the rest of my colleagues to join me in denouncing this
witch hunt, which is clearly intended to create fear and distrust in our
Capitol Hill community.”
House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI) today issued the
following statement in support of American Muslim congressional interns:
“It shouldn’t need to be said in 2009, and after the historic election of our
first African-American president, but let me remind all my colleagues that
patriotic Americans of all races, religions, and beliefs have the right – and
the responsibility – to participate in our political process, including by
volunteering to work in Congressional offices. Numerous Muslim-American
interns have served the House ably and they deserve our appreciation and
respect, not attacks on their character or patriotism.”
