the murder-suicide involving steve mcnair and a kurdish american woman might put the spotlight on the kurdish community in tennessee. to be honest i think the story will make more of a media impact since it isn’t *just* black-on-black crime (imagine if nicole brown simpson had been black).

where did you get her ethnicity from?
razib 5:26 pm on July 5, 2009 Permalink |
her family is from iran, and nashville has the largest kurdish community in the USA. her name matches that of other kurds.

Meh, she’s a call girl, just like every other Iranian girl I’ve known in America.

What a lovely sexist thing to say.
null 8:27 pm on July 5, 2009 Permalink |
How is that you know so many call girls?
Dan 8:58 pm on July 5, 2009 Permalink |
I didn’t know they were until I realized after I befriend them when I used to live in ‘Tehrangeles’.
Iranian girls have a reputation for being promiscuous, and the obvious reason is with their desperate attempts to fit in and assimilate. This chick was no different.

for someone who often demands quantitative data for generalizations of muslim societies you really should chill on the stereotypes unless you can offer your own notches as personal research or finding something from a sex survey (the GSS might help here). the iranians i know do have something of “shallow SoCal” vibe about them (from where i stand), visible in their face plastic work frankly, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re exceptionally promiscuous (because of their concentration in west LA they also had really high net paper wealth compared to their income because of the property bubble according to census data).
in any case, the nashville kurds are a totally different community with a different history.

Iranian women have been much in the news lately – Stamping out negative stereotypes, foiling Israeli war planners, undermining enemy formation efforts on the part of assorted warmongers here in the West… perhaps you have a problem with that so now you’re taking ad hominen shots…
Dan 9:47 pm on July 5, 2009 Permalink
Not really. The only Iranian women I dislike are the ones from southern California, as well as those who still love the shah.
But then again, I tend to dislike Middle Eastern girls in America generally due to their superficial ways. They only like men who have money and prestige. Can’t forget Desi women either, but obviously they’re not Middle Eastern so I didn’t include them.

They only like men who have money and prestige.
so what’s this group where the women DON’T like $$$ & prestige? and while you’re at it, i’m curious about an ethnic group where guys don’t care about looks!

You sound like the anti-Muslim bigot, Spengler, with his gleeful gibes about ‘Iranian whores’.
Dan 2:08 pm on July 6, 2009 Permalink
The difference between myself and Spengler is that I do not refer to all Iranian women as such. I have specifically stated that the only ones that I have referred to using the terminology that I have described earlier are the ones that live in Los Angeles and the rest of Southern California. Not Iranians in Europe/UK, not Iranian-Australians, not Iranian-Malays, not Iranian-Japanese, but Iranian-Americans in Los Angeles. My sentiments are the same towards the Armenians in Glendale alone as well so don’t make this into an anti-Muslim bigotry because it really isn’t the case here.

well, to be fair, there isn’t an overwhelming likelihood that iranians in la would be muslim or even muslim backgrounds. lots of iranian jews in west la.
Dan 2:43 pm on July 6, 2009 Permalink |
Razib, that is true. But a lot of the Iranian Jews mostly reside in Beverly Hills.
