I think it is more appropriate for me to use my muslim name to post here…shams means “the sun” in arabic, and it is a tribute to both Shams al Nahar from a tale in the Arabian Nights and Shams e-Tabrizi, Rumi’s shayyk.
I took this name two years ago when I converted to Sufism. As a Sufi, it is perfectly legitimate for me to quote the Qu’ran, since I am not bound by the laws of memetic hygiene practiced by other Islamic scholars.
In case I have offended Thabet.
