I have been noting a disturbing trend in the US of insane converts (the most prominent being Adam Gadahn) for the past couple of years. The latest event in Philly

Is this a trend, or are these people dribbling into the religion at a constant rate similar to their presense in other religions? I noticed that over at your blog you said you’ve seen these people converting since the day you converted yourself.
The key question to my mind is whether the numbers have changed since Sept 11th, and all the enemy formation against Muslims that has been directed at the American public since then.
Irresponsible right-wingers in this country have sought to move Islam out of the column of “one of the great religions” to “the great threat/evil of our time.” Is it a reasonable theory that one by-product of that effort could be that truly unstable crazies with anti-social tendencies gravitate this way?

It might be a sound recommendation to those who run Dawah programs to specifically plan a section of study to discourage such individuals.
Here’s a related point I made on Dawah: We shouldn’t be limiting ourselves to competition with the Hells Angels for the “I’m OK with violence” slice of the West.

Like I said. I have met unstable individuals since well before 9/11. I particularly met Eric Fant around 1998 or so. But even before 9/11 I’ve seen individuals beat up and have their property destroyed (or stolen) by unstable (and violent) individuals.
I don’t see how this can be blamed on the right
