I’m not going back and forth with you over this because it is not my desire or purpose to defend Ayman al-Zawahiri or Al-Qaida. Truth be told, I don’t know if Ayman al-Zawahiri is racist nor do you…but I know for a fact that the specific comments made here were not racist and you would know that too if you were not blinded by your hatred for certain people. Maybe you should hate them, but it is not the characteristic of a believer to let their hatred of a person, even an evil wicked person, make them lose control of their faculties and discipline and just latch onto any charge they wish against them. This is doing injustice to them, and yes you can do injustice even to a wicked person and even to a person who is evil, and in fact Allaah (swt) has specifically advised you, me and all of us not to let our hatred of a people get in the way of us doing justice.
It is admirable that you care so much for the innocent victims of Al-Qaida that you are so emotionally moved. InshAllaah there is no reason in the world to be less moved by the innocent victims of America, but for some reason you seem silent about those. That is what bothers me sometime.
I was offended that he called blacks in America “house negros”. He is a racist piece of trash and you and I both know that that man would call me “ibn sawdaa”. He is probably just as racist as David Duke, if not more. If a person like me lived under his tyrannical rule, he would make me and my sons into eunuchs and make my female relatives into sex slaves.
That man knows nothing about me or my family or my people yet he feels that he can crap on our legacy. Yes, I was offended that he would try to graft murder onto that.
BTW, have you heard the racist things that they say about black people over the past 8 years in their videos?
Hatred? You’re damn right I HATE THEM. The people who support these creeps write me filthy emails insulting my children and my mother in the most heinous and racist ways and call it “Islamic”. So I have good reason to KNOW that these beasts are racists. I hear it from them all the time
Further, I am going to make sure that everyone in my family and my friends know that these creeps are RACISTS that want to kill them. They deserve to know it
Abu Noor, it’s also possible to use American aggression as an excuse to remain neutral about the filth in our own house. That’s not just either. After what Tariq has dealt with from extremists, I can’t blame him for his anger.
There were people during the Prophet’s time who called Sayyidina Bilal an uppity house slave, you know…I don’t recall the Prophet making excuses for them.
I appreciate your comments and if Tariq considers what I’ve said Alhamdulillaah. If he doesn’t think it’s worth considering alhamdulillaah. I read what Tariq has to say and every so often I just let him know what bothers me about it. So far, it doesn’t affect his thinking or writing, and believe me I know that for every time I choose to throw in my two cents Tariq gets 20 people cheering him on, but hey, I gotta say what I believe.
I don’t apologize for or defend anyone’s racism, nor do I defend anyone who has threatened Tariq’s family.
I do worry about the broad generic labelling of the extremists do this or the wackos do that or whatever because I don’t quite know who’s supposed to be included in these ominous “Theys.” I haven’t seen Tariq fall into this too much, but there are a number of other voices which use this kind of rhetoric to condemn all immigrant Muslims or even mainstream Muslim organizations that include many immigrants. I am a neither an immigrant nor in agreement with much about those mainstream Muslims orgs but this vague grouping of people bothers me very much.
By the way, I don’t know what you are talking about when referring to Bilal (radiAllaahu ‘anhu.) Bilal accepted Islam and underwent torture at the hands of his “master” because he refused to abandon Islam when the powerful disbelieving forces in his society were against it. No one would have called him a house slave. A house slave would be someone like Wahshy ibn Harb (radiAllaahu ‘Anhu) at the time when he agreed to fight against the Muslims on behalf of the powerful of Quraysh in order to try to gain his freedom. Of course, Wahshy (ra) later became Muslim, but when he was fighting for the Quraysh all of the Muslims including Bilal (ra) would not hesitate to fight against him.
So, we agree that racism is never acceptable nor do I apologize for it. As I said in my comment, I do not know if Ayman al-Zawahiri is a racist. I also don’t watch Al-Qa’ida videos so I don’t know if, as Tariq says, I would just know that all of “them” are racists from watching the videos. Nor do I do ridiculous things like assume they must be racist because they are Arab and a lot of Arabs are racist. This specific statement by Zawahiri however, as reported, does not criticize Obama for standing up to the poweful in his society but for identifying with them and for siding with them in their wars.
Criticizing someone for siding with and identifying with the poweful empire which has invaded Muslim lands and shed innocent blood is not racist, nor is it wrong.
My original comment says it clear and plain…I am not going to defend Ayman al-Zawahiri or Al-Qa’ida. But I will say this — if Barack Obama follows through on his pledge to expand the war in Afghanistan, if does not follow through on his pledge to withdraw from Iraq, as soon as he takes office, these become his wars and he is responsible for every life that is taken by the U.S. war machine. Those lives, and the lives of the people of Gaza, where Obama sides with the people who kill them, who besiege them, who steal their land, who humiliate their elders, who deny their children the right to learn, those lives that Obama has shown by the positions he takes mean nothing to him while supporting Israel means everything…then know that the lives of those people in Palestine and in Afghanistan and in Iraq are worth not one bit less than my life or Tariq’s life or his children’s life. And I pray fervently that Allaah (swt) protects Tariq and his children and that Allaah (swt) protects my children and when I think of how much I love them I still think that every human life is worth just as much. And if Al-Qa’ida takes those lives I will criticize them and I will do so harshly. And if Barack Obama takes those lives, or sides with those who do, then I will criticize him and criticize him harshly and the fact that he’s a Blackamerican does to me only make it worse, because he should know better.

I look forward to an equally nuanced discussion on those people who think Obama is a Muslim and all Muslims are Evil Terrorists.
