While Islamophobia Watch talk about defending Muslims, they end up defending the nastiest and most right-wing part of the Muslim community – the ones who are oppressing and killing the rest.
That’s a pretty cogent critique. My problem with any kind of Islamophobia “watch” is that all too often you’ll find what you set out to find – and the dilution of the concept of Islamophobia hirts the ordinary muslim who suffers at the hands of actual jafis. Its much like the dilution of anti-Semitism, which used to mean something and now has been generalized to abstracted emptiness.
