    Veiled athletes at the Olympics:

This year’s Games will see a sizable sprinkling of veiled athletes who are determined to avoid offending devout Muslims back home while showing skimpily dressed rivals there is nothing constricting about wearing “hijab.”

Islam has been massively covered in the media for close to 7 years and they still cannot get basic terminology right re: veil and hijab. Hayzeus Christo.

i sympathize with your feeling, but just wonder if “veil” is really a technical term at all.

well from two perspectives, i don’t think veil is really an islamic technical term perse, (maybe purdah?) but from “western” coverage of Islam, veil just seems to be a catch-all for whatever a muslim woman has on her head that covers any degree of hair that isnt a baseball cap.
