the dude was raised by atheist parents, and was an atheist/agnostic until his 20s. his associations with atheism are much more concrete than with islam, so mebee thaz why he demurs….

mom and step-dad were not believers in god. that counts, right? (read his bio, he mentions their lack of religion, and he mentions his own lack of religion until his late 20s).
