    i’m sure some of you have read said’s *orientalism* on these comment boards the accusation of “orientalism” comes up over and over. there is the narrow view of orientalism as elucidated in said’s work which focuses on the use and abuse of scholarship in the service of colonialism and imperialism. then there’s the broader sense of how the occident views the other….

    I am sure conflict with the Catholic Hapsburgs and Orthodox Russians also helped inform the Ottomans.
