    heh. i suppose you might retitle my post, “huh? muslims feign ignorance that Israel feigns ignorance” etc.

    still, such a blatant and clumsy denial seems out of character. Even tinpot Arab regimes do a better job of at least attempting to spin. it makes me wonder if there isnt something more complicated going on.

    I tried to search for evidence of cluster bombs in Lebanon but am not having much luck - would be useful. wish i had lexis nexis access…

    What do you mean by evidence of cluster bombs in Lebanon? I just typed cluster + bomb + Lebanon into Google and received lots of hits… Numerous reports on the IDF admitting to using them to target civilian areas, HRW reports, even a State Department official expressing disquiet over their use.

    I find it hard to believe that the IDF spent all summer firing cluster bombs on civilians (which certainly helped them murder around 1000 or so people) while the Israeli govt was completely unaware of what was going on.

    It was all over the news. Or wait, I was still in Egypt at the time so I would have been watching Al Jazeera. But Al J English would have covered it, and they’re crawling with escapees from the BBC, so that’s some cachet at least. I want to say I remember the BBC itself covering it too…

    sorry- wsnt clear, meant admissions from israeli sources of cluster bomb use. my recollection was that they said they were necessary, implicitly admitting their use.

    The Israeli media carried the following reports:

    Haaretz: “IDF admits targeting civilian areas in Lebanon with cluster bombs”.

    JP: “IDF defends use of cluster bombs in Lebanon”.

    JP: “IDF concludes cluster bomb use legal”.

    The CS Monitor covers this issues quite well with links to other news sources: “Israeli military finds cluster bomb use in Lebanon war was legal”.

    What is the former Israeli official admitting to here? That Israel is a quasi-fascist state in which the military acts with recklessness and is not accountable to a democratically elected government?

    What will Israeli govt officials feign ignorance of next? The 1000 or so people killed by their actions? The targeting of civilian infrastructure?
