  Why are the Tamil Tigers attacking civilian buses in southern Sri Lanka?

  “Because they are Terrorists^TM” is such an unsatisfying answer, but at this point it’s the only one that makes any sense. Their actions certainly put the lie to their claim of fighting for independence.

  If the terrorists said they were aiming to disrupt the transportation network of their enemies, and the civilians killed were merely collateral damage, would this be satisfactory?

  it woudl at least match our own Western rhetoric about collateral damage, so it would be an improvement
