    i seriously don’t get the logic here. I also doubt that the “commmunity” was outraged, more like a few shopkeepers who decided ot make a big show of their piety. This is basically nothing more than one-upmanship: I can be more offended than you, so therefore I am better.

    yeah, I think “outrage” is a little strong. the quotes by the muslim leader towards the end of this piece are telling:

    Osama Saeed, of the Scottish Islamic Foundation, said Muslims traditionally regarded dogs differently from people brought up in Western culture. He said: “This seems to be a complaint based on culture rather than religion. There isn’t any Islamic basis for taking issue with a simple picture of a little puppy.”

    I would like to add that this story, being the Daily Mail, could turn out to be utter tripe. The right-wing trash press (Sun, NoTW, Daily Express, Daily Mail etc) have a history of making up shit.

    They are tabloids, and not even good as ‘ablution paper’ as they are not even absorbent, and the ink tends to smear.
