I just finished The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. So many people have said that this book renews your faith in the human spirit, makes you believe in redemption, lifts your soul… but the only thing I feel is anger.

anger at wasting your time reading it? because that’s how i felt.
snide comments aside, i thought it was at best an average book. confirmed prejudices, challenged nothing, and had a predictable ending.

no, i wouldnt call it a waste of time. I mean, it was definitely gripping enough to make me finish it off by staying up late. My anger is more reflective, and historical, in nature. I’ll expand o this in a bit.

Do; I’m interested to hear what you think. I haven’t read it–not sure I’m up to it emotionally.

I also had problems with that book and the movie, though I liked A Thousand Splendid Suns a lot more…http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2008/01/05/6192/
The secular non-religious “cultural Muslim” is the good guy, the “religious” people are the bad guys, and the villain is a homosexual pedophile rapist racist Nazi sympathizer Talib (a true unbervillain), the US role in Afghanistan’s destruction is not discussed, etc. There are some more articles that discuss these points in depth, but I can’t find them upon googling.

I’ll be skipping this one, it seems.
