    President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono signed a decree Monday ordering members of a minority Muslim sect to stop practicing their form of Islam or face arrest.

    indonesia is to some extent a cypher. you can convert from islam to hinduism, but you can’t convert to ahmaddiya!?!?! the “official religions” policy is a relic of the cold war and the demand that people have a religion after the battle against the communist inspired unrest of the 1960s (this resulted in a spike of the number of protestants as many unaffiliated people chose this religion). the ideology also forced all religions to be monotheistic, so hinduism and buddhism were “re-worked.”
