Poor thing! Salemtik. My no-fail recipe is this: cut a fresh, washed lemon into wedges. Boil some water. Pour into teapot (for large batch) or mug (for single batch). Squeeze the lemon juice into the hot water…then drop in the entire lemon wedge. (The volatile oils from the skin of the lemon contain the most antiseptic elements and vitamin C). Add a packet of herbal peppermint or spearmint tea (or the dried herb in a reusable tea steeper). Let steep for 5 min. Add honey. (NOT sugar…sugar will irritate a sore throat and give bacteria something to eat.)
This is the only thing that made me feel better when I used to get that Pertussis-like Nile plague that sweeps through Cairo in early spring.
One vote for the honey/lemon/mint tea though we just have honey and lemon in our household
One vote also to the ginger tea
Also, chicken soup with plenty of pepper and ginger
A good strong chicken curry also helps.
I can vouch for the strong curry (or nihari, or payaa) remedy. Your taste buds and nose are so utterly blown away by the saturation bombing of spices that your cold kind of gives up. truly, destroying the village to save it.
