- added the Share This icon (visible only on post pages, not main page). Try it out, it’s the easiest way to submit a link to the various bookmarking services, Facebook, even email. Go ahead. Click it. You know you wanna.
- added the checkbox to the top of rt sidebar when checked, clicking a link opens a new window (or tab). You can turn this on or off as you please.
- I am extending the Recent Comments box to 7 posts, rather than only 5. We can make it longer still if need be.
- I’d like to request volunteers to test out the subdomain blog feature. I want to add a sidebar section that shows most recent post from user-blogs (ie username.talkislam.info). Signup for a blog is limited at present to registered users. If youd like to help test it out, drop me a line at salaam at talkislam.info. Note that any blog presently hosted on wordpress.com can be imported to talkislam within a matter of minutes, archives, comments, and all intact.
I actually already planned to try and restrain myself a bit on weekends, especially as I recruit more and more people to join. Still waiting on a reply from Andrea useem, Umm Yasmin, Zack Ajmal… oh, I gotta email Laura! I’d rather err on teh side of too many posts than topo few, though - I dont want there to be any class of users besides frontpagers and commentators, and the only real criterion there is that a frontpager should have a blog somewhere else. Though noneof that is set in stone either.
I am running the Prolouge theme, which was designed to emulate Twitter. Its a very complex theme that does things a bit differently under the hood. To be honest I am a bit leery of tweaking the layout a bit until I understand it a bit better. Thouhg I will look into adding a vertical line separator between columns, that should be pretty easy. I did notice that the site looks a lot different in IE vs Firefox - fonts are smaller, lighter, etc. I assume you are using the former?
I also dont really want to try and impose any rules on the contributors, regarding tagging, links, posts as replies vs comments as replies, etc. I think that its better as an organic thing. Too much interference from me will only serve to obstruct people from contributing. The value of this site is strictly a function of how many people participate, so I need ot restrain my urge to micromanage.
That said, I think tinyurl is the best. I am essentially lazy. I have the firefox extension for tinurl installed, and with that I can create a tinyurl bt right clicking any link, and it gets autocopied to my clipboard ready for pasting as well. Then i just paste it into the text window and dont have to worry about all that a href equals crap. Saves me time. I think thouhg that everyone having a different style just adds to the informal feel of the place. Its like a sofa at someone’s apartment, not a formal lecture hall.
I am envious of your identicon.

Ideas:
Take weekends off. Or limit posting to only some kind of ‘uber’ users.
Move the posts column a bit to the left to create some separation between the right sidebar and posts.
Can you make the font blacker and maybe have a little more spacing between lines? Its also a tad small.
Can the link sharing format be standard. Why are some in tiny url?
Loving the functionality. Honestly I feel my life has just been made so much easier.
