As odd as it may seem, the more I get involved with the conversation about religion in comics the more convinced I become that the art form will be a really big part of revitalizing faith across doctrinal boundaries. (I swear I’m not just saying that because I write them.) I was on this panel today at the New York Comicon, and the response was really enthusiastic. People seem really thirsty for new ways to express a healthy religious impulse.

I think you are right. Maybe it is because the traditional mode of religious expression has become too politicized. The vast majority of young people who read comics are likely cynical about politics, so that they shy away from association (Obama is changing this, it should be noted). On the right you have the conservative warriors and on the left you have a built-in antipathy and condescension towards the spiritual (darwin fish, etc).
