the religious element is important here. a disproportionate (likely majority) of those civilians directly killed were probably hindus. i think that’s one reason muslim bangladeshis have been relativley sanguine about the issue; very few people they know personally were affected. the other group were leftist intellectuals, which is a very small slice of the pop….
